drug issues and to promote the achievements of those who work to reduce drug
related harm.

We
recently held our open day at UnitingCare Moreland Hall Youth Unit
(Gwenyth Williams House) in conjunction with the Living in Glenroy Project.
Hey, Were Here!
The Voice of Youth has been planned and developed by a group of over 75 local
youth working with seven youth services and Moreland City Council.
Activities included viewing
the youth artwork, their contribution to the improvement of the garden areas
including mosaics and a wall mural as well as the performances of Out There
and Animal Band.
The Living in Glenroy
project is funded by the Australian Government Department of Family and Community
Services, created with these partner agencies: Anglicare Youth Services, Box
Forest Secondary College, Glenroy neighbourhood Learning Centre, Koorie Open
Door Education, Moreland Community Health Services Co-Care, UnitingCare
Moreland Hall and Youth Projects, supported by Moreland City Council, and
organised by young people living, studying, working and playing in Glenroy,
Oak Park and Hadfield. For more information see www.moreland.vic.gov.au

Empowering
Individuals & Families in the Human Services Conference
AUnitingCare Moreland
Hall counsellors John Quiroga and Jess Maude recently made a presentation
at the "Empowering Individuals & Families in the Human Services"
National Strategy Conference on May 27-28. The title of their presentation
was "Moving beyond the conditioned response: Building an integrated practice
model for staff working with young people experiencing substance use problems
while in out-of-home care."

Conference
International Conference
on the Reduction of Drug Related Harm - 20-24 April. The UnitingCare
Moreland Hall Education and Training Unit presented their acclaimed video
'Scorched' at the conference. This video is a hard-hitting look at
heroin overdose.

Week (24 - 29 June 2002). Below is a summary of events.

magnets and balloons increasing awareness of services

Shopping Centre Stall
When: Tuesday 25th June, 10.30 - 3.30
Where: Barkly Square Shopping Centre, Brunswick
Attractions:

- Sausage sizzle
- Registered
Nurses giving blood pressure monitoring tests
- Helium filled
ABCD balloons
- Give away
information bags including general brochure, ABCD balloon, ABCD
brochure, CWC brochure and a drug information handout incorporating
the Big Book on Drugs cartoons. People were able to collect specific
brochures from the table to include in their bag.

up in the backyard.
