Chaplain - Personal Support
Reverend Rosemary Carter

Program Description and Objectives

UnitingCare Moreland Hall is committed to an holistic understanding of people. Pastoral and spiritual care and support are offered to assist people to reach their full potential during withdrawal and recovery. These services are available to any people connected with UnitingCare Moreland Hall withdrawal and counselling and support services, without discrimination or obligation.

Enabling staff and clients to seek greater spiritual awareness as well as providing them with pastoral care, and developing and maintaining wider church and community connections are the main priorities of this ministry.

Pastoral Care
The chaplain offers support to clients and their families experiencing a variety of personal issues that may affect withdrawal and recovery, including hospitalization, family difficulties and grief and loss. Assisting people with reconnecting to the wider community for support and friendship is a developing aspect of pastoral care important to ongoing withdrawal and recovery.

Spiritual Development
This is achieved through group and individual sessions with clients and staff. Incorporated in this is the promotion of worship experiences and other specific services resulting from particular situations. The Chaplain leads groups at the adult unit which explore life, relationships and spirituality. The Chaplain seeks to assist people to reconnect with their faith tradition or spiritual roots.

Church Connections
This involves the exploration of opportunities for developing relationships that will benefit the church, UnitingCare Moreland Hall and its clients. This is achieved through church committee involvement, guest speaking and monthly worship leadership. The Chaplain also seeks to develop ways of engaging the church and the wider community in practical support of Moreland Hall and its clients, and to increase awareness of the needs of this particular community.

Community Integration
The Chaplain's role is to establish links with community organisations to publicise UnitingCare Moreland Hall's services, as well as to provide general information about alcohol and other drug issues, plus intervention options to individuals and community groups. Involvement in the community multi-faith organisation is an avenue for developing an holistic spiritual and pastoral approach to assist staff and clients.
