Mission and Objectives

UnitingCare Moreland Hall's Withdrawal Services:

  • assesses clients' withdrawal needs and matches them to the most appropriate withdrawal treatment;
  • supports clients and their families whilst they are waiting to access withdrawal services;
  • provides medical, psychosocial and pharmacological support as required to assist clients to withdraw from alcohol or other drugs; and
  • links clients with the most appropriate post withdrawal support.

Programs

Withdrawal Services are provided for people residing in the Northern Metropolitan Region. The Youth Community Residential Withdrawal service also takes clients from the Hume region.

Check the postcodes in the Northern Metropolitan and Hume regions on the postcodes page.

  • Assessment
    Assessment, operating from 9.00 to 11.30am Monday to Thursday at the Jessie Street location, is a drop-in service that assists clients to determine the withdrawal service that best suits their needs. It assists clients to plan their withdrawal episode and supports them whilst they are waiting to access the withdrawal service.

    Clients may attend an assessment without making an appointment.

  • Residential Withdrawal

    Community Residential Drug Withdrawal - Adult
    (Lesley-Anne Curran Place)

This twelve-bed facility located in Heidelberg provides residential support to assist adults to withdraw from a range of drug types. Because of the high level of support available, this service provides for increasingly complex clients with a range of issues including psychiatric, legal and accommodation problems.

Community Residential Drug Withdrawal - Youth (Gwenyth Williams House)

This four-bed facility has been operating since June 2000. It operates in a home-like environment, Gwenyth Williams House, named after a recently retired member of the UnitingCare Moreland Hall Board of Governance. It provides withdrawal support and respite for young people aged 12 to 21 years. Like the adult service, the youth unit works in conjunction with general practitioners in the community. Clients are drawn from the Northern Metropolitan Region and Hume Regions.

  • Non Residential Withdrawal

    Outpatient Withdrawal
    The Outpatient Withdrawal Service assists people who experience mild to moderate withdrawal and who can be appropriately managed without admission to a residential service. The service is provided by a registered nurse who works with general practitioners in the community to monitor withdrawal symptoms, provide information and support and link clients to appropriate post withdrawal services.

    Homebased Withdrawal
    The Homebased Withdrawal Service works with young people and adults to provide a safe withdrawal in the comfort and security of the client’s home. It is provided in conjunction with general practitioners in the community. Registered nurses monitor withdrawal symptoms, provide information and support to clients and family members and link clients to appropriate post withdrawal services.

    Post Withdrawal Support - Continuity of Care
    The Post Withdrawal Support worker develops linkages to appropriate agencies and assists clients to access post withdrawal support. This service greatly enhances outcomes for clients.

    Access the Post Withdrawal Support page on this site.
